Friendster testimonial for Daiji
October 12, 2003

I went skiing with Daiji once. Now
Daiji ain't normally the most physically
coordinated fellow in the world. I mean
just look at him. He has an uncanny
knack for creating unintended physical
comedy that during our college days led
to a great many laughs at his expense.
But he bore it gallantly, and we all
loved him dearly. He's one of the
nicest fellows you'll ever meet, and if
people'd just give him a chance and look
beneath the outer awkwardness, they'd
find a guy of surprising depth and
maturity, whose confidence has been
harder won than that of people born
naturally beautiful or athletic.

But I went skiing with him once. And
this dear friend who was an imminent
disaster on a bicycle, and a menace when
shaking a ketchup bottle, here he was
and the sheer grace of Daiji on skis was
stunning. Stunning. You know how there
is beauty in a skilled activity done
really well, like the golf swing of a
PGA pro on Sunday afternoon TV? That's
Daiji on skis. No kidding. You should
have seen him carve that big loopy arc
across the face of the slope. While
going backwards. On one ski. A fish
never swam as naturally.

Happiness is watching the people we care
about shine.
